PACKAGING AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY

We innovate with circular economy strategies to maximize resources, minimize waste, and transform the future of recycling.

We develop circular economy strategies that maximize resource use and minimize waste.

Our commitment includes four key elements: from packaging design and full lifecycle, to reuse and recycling, as well as oversight of operations and waste management processes.

Packaging

We foster design innovation through lighter packaging and the use of recycled materials in the manufacture of our beverage packaging, under our commitment to circularity, waste reduction, and responsible use of resources in our operations.

GOAL 2035: 30% to- 35%RECYCLED PET CONTENT IN PRIMARY PACKAGING.

Currently, 100% of our bottles are made from recyclable materials.

We are leaders in promoting the use of returnable bottles in all the countries where we operate.

32% of our sales volume comes from returnable bottles.

WASTE AND RECYCLING

We improve waste collection and recycling directly through partnerships, and we work toward achieving zero-waste operations.

In 2024, we began operations at PLANETA, our state-of-the-art food-grade PET recycling plant in Tabasco, Mexico—a joint venture with ALPLA. Thanks to PLANETA—which we plan to supply from 18 newly established collection centers—we are well positioned to optimize the rPET production cycle in southeastern Mexico.

Now operational, PLANETA has the capacity to process approximately 50,000 tons of post-consumer PET bottles per year, equivalent to about 6% of the total PET recycling capacity in the country. Moreover, PLANETA operates with three times the capacity of the Mexican Recycling Industry (IMER), the pioneering food-grade PET recycling plant we launched in 2005 with The Coca-Cola Company. This growth strengthens the recycling cycle and creates a more robust system to move forward toward our sustainability goals.

RECYCLING PROJECTS IN THE COUNTRIES OF OPERATION:

  • COLOMBIA

The program Reciclave Motocargueros gives motorized cargo vehicles to recyclers, dignifying their work and increasing the collection rate of recyclable materials.

  • COSTA RICA Y NICARAGUA

We focus on post-consumption PET waste recovery, for wich we work with specialized organizations to collect, process, and use the waste with the goal of recovering post-consumption materials across the country.

  • GUATEMALA

The Casas Verdes program seeks to reduce waste going to the landfill through a circular economy by placing a collection center in a residential area.

  • MÉXICO

The Mi Tienda Sin Residuos program works with local businesses to promote more efficient management of recoverable waste.
